Italeri Do-24T
This model is in fact a re-issue of the 1970's Revell-Italeri model.
The general looks of the Italeri model is good, a deeper look
however shows a few (small) mistakes.
The most obvious mistake is the fact that the Dutch X-24
is modeled as a Do-24T, when it was a
Do-24K-1. The registration X-24
is placed on the rudder when in fact it was placed under the rudder
on the fuselage. Another part is the missing of the drawing of
the X-24 on the fuselage below
the cockpit (click here
to see the original X-24).
The Swedish Do-24T is in fact the Do-24T-3 Werk Nr. 3343
and the decals look right.
The German Do-24T-1 is a bit puzzling
to me as I can't find any information about a CD+BH, a Stammzeichen
that has not been used by Aviolanda, Fokker or S.N.C.A.-N.. The
aircraft was supposed to be in service with Seenotgruppe III,
a unit with very little background information. I will try to
get in contact with Italeri and maybe they have some information
about this aircraft.
The funny thing is that the fuselage is a Do-24K
model and the wings and gunturrets are Do-24T
model. there is no detail showing for the two hatches on the side
of the fuselage used for loading and unloading. These hatches
were not present on the Do-24K model,
but were on the Do-24T.
Overall there are some defects obvious before starting the project, but at the moment this is the only readily available from the box model out there, so I have to make do with it.
One day I hope to have the time and patience to build this model and of course this process can be followed on this webpage.
