August 29th 1942, the rescue of a Ju-86 crew:

A Ju-86R or P (Werk Nr.5144) of 2(F)/123 made a reconnaissanse flight to photograph the three harbors of the Suezcanal. On the returnflight, about 150 km north of Alexandria in Egypt one engine failed at an altitude of 10500 to 11000 meter. About 1000-2000 meter below was an English fighter, but the crew did not see any gunfire, so it had to a technical problem. The plane rapidly lost height and had to be ditched in the Mediterranean. Crewmembers were pilot Hauptmann Helmut Rammig and observer Leutnant Kolw. The plane ditched about 100 km south of Crete. A Do-24 of Seenotstaffel 7 responded with probably Leutnant Philipp Barbinger at the controls. When the two crewmembers were pulled on board they were repeatidly asked where the other two crew members were, they were not believed when they said that the Ju-86 only carried two. Appologies were made by the Do-24 crew in after returning in Suda with a glass of Schnapps.
